What is Sound healing?

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, & vibration” -Nikola Tesla

Cases of using sound to achieve healing & supernatural results can be found in almost all ancient civilizations from the Amazons, to ancient Kemet (egypt), vedic society, & on.

All these cultures developed their own use & ritualistic practice to bring harmonization & healing to the minds, bodies, & spirits of their civilization. Sacred sound vibration is not only limited to expensive instruments, as we will learn from these cultures, sound healing can be as potent with just your god given voice & heart.

The amazon

In the East, sound healing is also widely practiced in yogic traditions with the use of Mantras. There many mantras, but today we will focus on the most prominent; the pranav mantra & the maha mantra. The pranav mantra, also know as "Om", is considered in vedānta philosophy (vedanta translates to ultimate KNOWLEDGE) as the fundamental BASE sound vibration.

It is said to represent supreme absolute energy, & when we chant "om" we are directly connecting to this TRANSCENDENTAL energy; Which leads us to the maha mantra.

in the sanskrit language "maha" translates to "greatest". but what makes this mantra so great? unlike many others, which have rules, standards, specific times, etc, this mantra can be said anytime, anywhere, by anyone in anyway to directly connect & transport you to the spiritual plane, far beyond this MATERIAL world.

The maha mantra is specifically said to "cleanse the mirror of the heart" which brings you closer to your pure spirit. it is a simple mantra which is easy to recite, even children can join in. the mantra goes...

"hare krishna hare krishna

krishna krishna hare hare

hare rama hare rama

rama rama hare hare"

This mANTRA can be sang in what is known as kirtan, or it can be quietly chanted to oneself in a meditation known as japa. If you'd like to learn more about how to utilize the potency & power of this simple yet sacred mantra, scroll down to the next post TITLED "what are mantras".

what do we make of all of this?

It is evident, even now, that these ancient cultures were remarkably advanced in their holistic approach to uniting mind, body, & spirit. Peace flourished more prominently in those times compared to the present age.

Today’s age of discord arises from many factors, but as we reflect on the wisdom of the past, we see that a deep connection to spirit & a holistic way of living formed a solid foundation for harmony. With this understanding, we can learn to reintegrate these practices into our lives, recognizing that we are not separate from the ancients who lived in true peace and balance.

Let us return to this wisdom & remember: there is no better time than now to embrace these timeless, potent, practices.

What are mantras?

“Mantra is a combination; You get the combination right, it will open up a doorway into creation” -Sadhguru

Mantras are words, sounds, and phrases that when chanted, transformative states in one's being, seen & unseen. Mantras have been used for many MILLENNIA to facilitate meditation & invoke divine connection.

The word mantra comes from the Sanskrit language & breaks down into two words, ‘man’ meaning of the mind & tra’ meaning to transcend.

"om", the root of it all

In their purest form, all mantras are rooted from the SYLLABLE Om. In Sanskrit, Om is called Pranava, & is an eternal sound which represents the energy of the supreme.

In chapter 10 verse 25 of the Bhagavad Gita as it is, it states "Of the manifestations, I am the syllable AUM".

When certain vibrations are chanted they reverberate & begin to transcend us to states of higher CONSCIOUSNESS, clarity, & connection to the supreme source.

Many people in the west misuse mantras to mean affirmation, saying statements like “I am... ” to bring their minds to states of positivity. although these may be helpful to inspire positive thinking, they are not true mantras.

mantras are of spiritual essence; whether we know the meaning or not, they still have a significant impact on our eternal spirit, mind, & even body.

the greatest mantra

One of the most potent mantras to date is the Mahā-mantra, also known as Hare Krishna mantra. Mahā-mantra is rooted in Bhakti Yoga.

In sanskrit bhakti means loving devotion, while yoga means connection to source; so this yogic discipline is centered around loving devotion as a means of connection with the supreme source.

the mantra is chanted,

"hare krishna hare krishna

krishna krishna hare hare

hare rama hare rama

rama rama hare hare"

this mantra in essence translates to "o supreme energy, RESERVOIR of all happiness, please ENGAGE me in your service".

moving from the heart

in this material world, when we see someone who is being served by others, they are considered a highly important person.

in the spiritual world, the most highly important persons are the ones who are serving, as this is our sanatana dharma, or eternal position.

we are naturally meant to serve, but when we loose sight of this position, we end up serving fleeting, temporary, material pleasures. everyones EXPERIENCE can prove, this does not last long or lead to happiness.

when we revive our position to serve the divine energy by chanting this maha mantra, with our own unique gifts & gift of life, our life will be transformed into true peace & happiness.

THE first step in REVIVing our ETERNAL soul, is hearing submissively. then the process of "cheto darpana marjanam" (sanskrit for "cleansing the mirror of the heart") begins.

what do we make of all of this?

Mantras are a divine, transformative, & simple practice to add into your life. They can assist you in personal growth, peace & unimaginable positive change. You can put them into practice any time; morning/evening rituals, in the shower, as a prayer before bed. It's never a bad time to chant & be brought to the transcendental peace you are deserving of.
